James Forrest, Chairman and Special Advisor

James is currently Managing Partner of Lamplighter Partners, LLC, a family investment vehicle focused on venture capital investments. James has an extensive background in venture capital from seed stage to expansion stage, as well as private equity leveraged buyouts with companies having revenues as high as $700 million.

Previously, James was a Managing Director of Wind Point Partners, a private equity firm based in Chicago, for 20 years. As a Managing Director, James was responsible for origination, investment decision-making, transaction structuring and negotiation, and was particularly active in managing portfolio companies, having served as interim CEO of several. James served on the Boards of Directors of seventeen companies during his time at Wind Point, and his average IRR was over 20% across the seventeen investments.

Prior to joining Wind Point Partners in 1988, James was with Gould, Incorporated, where he was an elected officer and a member of the executive committee. As Vice President of strategic planning, James was responsible for the development of Gould's corporate strategy. Prior to that, he served as President of the company's Recording Systems Division, an electronics business with facilities in England, France, Germany, India, Mexico and the United States. James also served in a variety of senior engineering and marketing positions at Gould. Earlier in his career, James worked at The Harry Diamond Laboratories in Washington, D.C. as an electronic engineer.

James currently serves on the Boards of Patina Solutions, a Brookfield, Wisconsin-based niche provider of interim executive management, and Balanced Associates, a regional retailer of athletic shoes and apparel, and on the Advisory Board of the Center for Venture Capital, Private Equity and Finance at Michigan State University. In addition, James has served on the Boards of several other private companies in the healthcare and electronic industries.

James earned his B.S., magna cum laude, in electrical engineering from Michigan State University in 1971 and received his M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1975.
